Living in the middle of the wilderness

Archidona is a city in permanent contact with nature, from the immense landscapes of cereal crops and olive groves, to the grandeur of the natural spaces that surround it. This quality allows the traveller to immerse themselves with ease in the natural world, to appreciate its botanical and faunal wealth, while practising active tourism activities at the same time.

Nature's whims

The hiking activity is an affordable option for all people to enjoy the outdoor atmosphere and to encounter nature and the rural environment. An opportunity to appreciate the colour and smell changes of the different seasons of the year, and of the landscape that surrounds us.

From walking calmly and peacefully along rural roads, to practising hiking marches along the different routes that traverse Archidona and the region. An example could be the Hoz del Arroyo Marín trail or long-distance itineraries, such as the GR7-E4 or the Great Path of Málaga.

For sports lovers and active tourism aficionados, you will find an interesting and varied offer in Archidona and its region, such as climbing, horse riding, canoeing, rafting and even the opportunity to experience the free flight.

For climbing fans, the city has two sectors in the Cerro de las Grajas, which is complemented by the Via Ferrata del Cerro de la Virgen de Gracia.

Canoeing lovers can do it in the waters of the Genil River, along the way through the towns of Cuevas de San Marcos and Cuevas Bajas. And for the most enthusiastic adventurers, the possibility of enjoying the emotions of whitewater rafting on a stretch of the Genil river itself.

But if you want to enjoy a different vision of the landscape and the environment, we also have the opportunity to practise free flight, to contemplate the natural environment from a bird ‘s eye viewpoint in the towns of Villanueva del Trabuco or Cuevas de San Marcos.

Sometimes, nature itself surprises us by moulding the territory, creating unique places and
landscapes. Such is the case of the wetlands like, for instance, the nature reserve of the Archidona lagoons, where you can delight in the ornithological flora and fauna; or barely 30 minutes away, you can find the Fuentepiedra lagoons, where thousands of flamingos have their place for breeding.

Less than an hour away, we can enjoy two unique places. One of them is the Torcal Park of Antequera, where the action of water and wind on the limestone has created a landscape of unique and whimsical shapes and figures. Or the Caminito del Rey, a tour of the vertical walls of the Gaitanes gorge as a result of the action of the Guadalhorce River, that has been deepening this gorge. The path is attached to the vertical walls of the gorge, with a length of 3 km, a width of barely one metre and a height of 100 metres above the river.
